Benidorm is 38.8 miles north of Alicante Airport following the N332. It was once a fishing village whereas today it is now known for its hotel industry, beaches and skyscrapers which have been built up over the years due to the high demand of tourism in the area.

There are three major beaches in Benidorm - Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas. Each one has reached the maximum quality of the European Union and therefore each hold a blue flag. The tallest building in the whole of Spain stands in the city of Benidorm at 186 meters high and is a 4 star hotel (Gran hotel Bali). There are currently 310 buildings taller than 35 meters and it is claimed that after New York Benidorm has the most skyscrapers in the world.

Things to do in and around Benidorm

Art Gallery - This is the main art gallery which is in a historic building, you will find many paintings, sculptures and seasonal exhibitions.

Agricultural Museum - (Museo de Agricola), you will find many historic farming tools and equipment on show.

Wax Museum - (Museo de Cera) you can find more than 100 lifelike waxworks of famous people from singers like Elvis Presley to Charlie Chaplin film stars, Royal families and well known politicians and fictional characters. Created by the famous waxwork sculptor Jose Ballester, the wax museum also holds an erotic art section.

Gran hotel Bali - The highest building in Spain at 186 meters not including its aerial! Take a panoramic lift to the top where you will find an open air platform for visitors to take in the magnificent view over Benidorm and its surroundings.

Rocky Promontory - Great views to both levante and poniente beaches, during the evening you will find painters, caricatures’, craftsmen selling their work and musicians playing.

Mirador Del Castillo - Located in the old town where you can appreciate some amazing views, go downstairs to the lookout point.

La Cruz - (The Cross) is one of Benidorms land marks on top of La Montera where you can find great views of the city, at night La Cruz is illuminated where you can see it from miles away.

Ancient Tower - Based at the end of levante beach behind Rincon de Loix you will find this ancient tower. It gives the feeling of peacefulness and tranquillity even though just a few hundred yards behind you is one of Europe’s busiest resorts.

The Fountain - One of Benidorms famous landmarks it’s a great feature between Levante and Poniente beach.

Park De l’aiguera - Benidorms largest and very beautiful central park is massive and starts from the New Town Hall and finishes at the Bullring. During the summertime it holds pop-rock concerts and every year the Benidorm International song contest where Julio Iglesias, Raphael and Duo Dinamico became famous and is always broadcasted on TVE International. There is a statue of Julio Iglesias, near the auditorium that is named after him.

Statues - Everywhere in Benidorm you will find statues on squares and boulevards that give a nice atmosphere to the busy area.
Living statues can also be found in the Parks.
Walking by the beach you are sure to find the Sand Sculptures, the sculptors can make some amazing things like Bulls, the Simpson family, dragons and many others, all of the sculptors work for tips!

Benidorm Island - (Peacock Island) you need to take a boat from the harbour which are frequent, you can spend as much or as little time here as you like. The Island is a small rock beach with only one building which is a restaurant, no one lives there just peacocks and other animals. The Island is recommended for scuba diving.

The Harbour - Has many boats that can take you on many tours, with glass bottom boats for you to see the underwater views, and is a great place to fish. The views on the harbour are beautiful as you can see both beaches, the Island and the Mediterranean Sea.

Park of Elche - Located in front of Poniente Beach and close to the harbour where you have palm trees that is Benidorms version of the palm tree park of Elx – Elche. With white pigeons, statues and views of the sea that are picture perfect.

Aqualandia - Many water slides all different shapes and sizes, there are many areas diving, zip slide, even swim through the waterfall, and an amazing childrens area that they would have all day fun in, with slides for the children, donut rings for them to go on, water pouring from above them, play balls floating around and water guns attached to barrels.

Mundomar - Found next to Aqualandia, check out the offers they have as they sometimes give you a reduced price if you pay for a ticket to get into both parks! Mundomar is a marine themed park, the highlight is the dolphin show, and you can also catch the seal lion show by walking through the bat cave! They offer photos to be taken with the dolphins and the sea lions at a fee.

Terra Mitica - is a huge attraction park with roller coasters and water slides, look out for the “Terra Mitica” sign on the hillside looking like the famous “Hollywood” sign in Los Angeles.

Terra Natura - Another theme park but with animals, you can learn about the animals and insects as well as also learn about other countries and there traditions. Whilst wondering in and out of these other countries and seeing what there traditions are you have the chance of trying out they’re local cuisine.

Transport to and from Benidorm

The narrow guage railway runs north of Benidorm to Denia and south to Campello, it’s a nice way to admire the coastline. You can connect to Alicante by a coastal tram from Campello.
Trains also stop at the clubs on the outskirts of Benidorm.
There are many buses that can take you in and around Benidorm.

Places to eat in and around Benidorm

Plaza de la Hispanidad also known as the “Plaza Triangular” is the heart of Benidorm, this is where the largest avenue is in Benidorm “Avenida Del Mediterraneo”. You can find many restaurants, outdoor terraces and cafes. Calle Gambo also starts here which is the most commercial street in Benidorm where you’ll find almost everything if not all on your to buy list.

Benidorm Palace - For Dinner and a show check out this amazing Cabaret that opens at 9pm, dinner follows shortly after and the cabaret begins at 10:30pm. Some amazing colourful costumes and dances, you don’t have to have dinner here, you can just pop along and see the show.

 

Nightlife and Festivals in and around Benidorm

Nightclubs can be found mainly on the west side of benidorm, you are sure to find the type of music you are looking for with the many clubs and themed bar areas Benidorm has to offer.

Benidorm Palace - For an amazing Cabaret doors open at 9pm and the cabaret begins at 10:30pm. Some amazing colourful costumes and dances.
